British tennis star Emma Raducanu wraps up her season and has decided to continue with trainer into the 2026 season.
The British player made it to the third stage in three out of four Grand Slam events in the current campaign.
The British tennis star Emma Raducanu will not compete in her remaining competitions of the year due to a medical condition she has been fighting for the last week and a half.
The 22-year-old had planned to participate in events in Asia but chose to travel back to rest and recuperate prior to beginning her preparations for 2026.
Those preparations will include trainer Francisco Roig, as they have agreed to work together again next season.
The tennis professional had her blood pressure taken while playing the initial match versus Ann Li in Wuhan and retired when behind 6-1 4-1 on a day with extreme humidity.
She again required a visit from the doctor at the recent Ningbo Open, where she fell in a three-set match to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in round one.
Raducanu was also moving noticeably restricted in the deciding set against Zhu because of back discomfort that has affected her during parts of the season.
Such performances meant an encouraging season, in which she climbed into the international top 30 after a long gap in more than three years, concluded with three straight losses.
She held three match points prior to falling to American player Jessica Pegula in round three in last month's Beijing event.
She secured twenty-eight matches in the current season and advanced to the semis in the Washington tournament, but her most impressive week was at March's Miami Open.
Ranked first in Britain made the last eight of this WTA 1000 tournament, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro en route before losing in three sets to Pegula, ranked fourth.
She worked with trainer Mark Petchey between Miami and Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in in time for the US Open.
The original arrangement with the ex-coach of Rafael Nadal was for the remainder of the year but they will keep working together, with planned training sessions late this year.
The athlete revealed that her three-day trial with Roig after Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as they tried to keep the meeting secret.
She came very close to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at their initial event as a team in August's Cincinnati tournament.
Roig joined her in the New York tournament, where she reached the third round before being beaten by 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
