Wilfried Nancy insisted he was not afraid of dismissal, claiming, “I believe we are extremely close to a turnaround,” despite edging perilously close to being fired with a comprehensive loss to the Ibrox side.

Another Collapse Results in Old Firm Loss

The home side were ahead their oldest rivals at the break but a second-half capitulation allowed Rangers to draw level on points with the defending league title holders. Nancy, who was hired from Columbus Crew, has now been in charge for six defeats in his first eight games.

“The board and I are united at the club,” insisted the manager.

Pressed on the speculation, the 48-year-old said: “I don’t think about it. I concentrate on finding ways to help my team to excel on details.

Protest On Display

The fans displayed their anger – aimed at the board and manager – by protesting outside the stadium. Club directors are reportedly likely to re-appoint the interim manager, who steered the club during a temporary stint previously, should a change be made.

“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. So this is the situation for the moment. Yet in stating this is the reality, that is not a sign that I am giving up. Not at all. My point is we are on the cusp, extremely close to change the narrative.”

Nancy’s Persistent Belief

The coach remains focused on the fact the side can perform strongly for 45 minutes at a time. In fact, but for missed chances they would have been better than 1-0 up. “I saw enough aside from the fact that we missed our chances,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but I have also to be objective.

“The performance we had at times was of top quality. That is a fact. I wouldn't talk like that if it was untrue. But that’s why, in terms of results, I mentioned this is the same story. Which is why I said that we are nearly there to things turning around. But for the moment: small things.”

“I saw plenty of positives that we did, once more. But now it’s about sustaining it. My narrative would not be if I didn't believe it. This is why I am convinced we’re going to be able to get back on track.”

The Rangers Boss Response

Rangers manager played down talk of a title charge in spite of what appeared to be a huge result. “One match at a time, so we can gradually build a challenge,” he said. “The belief in the group is excellent.”
