Zverev Takes On Felix Auger-Aliassime in ATP Finals Clash
Preamble
The typical complications of group stage tennis often result in at this point of the season-ending championships fans frequently find themselves scratching our heads, searching around for a computing device and striving to determine the complex qualification scenarios. Yet tonight’s match between Alexander Zverev and Auger-Aliassime, mercifully, is easy. It’s a straight shootout: the winner secures a semifinal battle against Carlos Alcaraz at this season-ending event; the unsuccessful competitor goes home.
The German is the frontrunner for this: the third-ranked player is the more accomplished player, has previously won at this competition previously on two instances and is ahead in their direct encounters 6-3, winning both the games they've played on an enclosed hard court.
However … this particular court on which Felix has secured the bulk of his trophies, he’s riding a high after his impressive recovery against Shelton on recently and he took out the German in the US Open initial phase in August. Furthermore, the playing speed is higher in Turin than at Flushing Meadows, which provides an additional advantage in AA’s favour.
If Zverev holds back, as he did against Sinner, and Felix aggressively challenges the European player with his effective service game and fearless play, it might very well be the young Canadian – the one-time phenom who was earlier slated ahead of the Spanish and Italian stars to replace the Big Three – who secures the uncertain distinction of competing with the world No 1 the next day.
The match starts: at around 20:30 in the host city, 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time.
